Job Description
About the Team
Cancer Council SA has an outstanding reputation for funding and delivering critical cancer research, prevention and support programs as well as a track record of successful advocacy. Its purpose of reducing the rate and impact of cancer is progressed through supporting people impacted by cancer today and bold leadership into the future.
The Mission Unit delivers sustainable, evidence-based supportive care services that promote optimal care and are accessible to all South Australians. It develops cancer prevention and education programs that reach deep into the community, and partners with First Nations communities to improve cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The unit also undertakes and funds high-quality research spanning the continuum from biomedical and translational to population health.
About the Role
The SA Comprehensive Cancer Network (SACCaN), led by the Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health (CEIH), will bring together South Australia’s leading cancer researchers, public health experts, clinicians, patients, carers and technology as well as promoting the best prevention programs, in a coordinated network.
This role will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to drive Cancer Council SA’s prevention pillar for the SACCaN, in line with the program workplan and organisational objectives. The role will work closely with funding partner, CEIH, and CCSA’s Prevention Programs Manager and broader prevention team as well as the SACCaN, to deliver a suite of initiatives focussing on cancer prevention, screening and early detection.
Key responsibilities include:
Applying health promotion/public health knowledge to lead the development of cancer prevention and screening initiatives in line with the SACCaN workplan and annual business plans
Drive quality project management documentation, including scoping papers, stakeholder engagement plans, project plans, budgets and reporting
Foster strategic partnerships across sectors to enhance program development and implementation, including with primary and secondary health, ACCHOs and community
Support the growth and development of a high performing team
Desired Skills and Experience
About You
At least 5 years of demonstrated experience designing, delivering, and evaluating health programs, particularly relating to cancer prevention or screening
Demonstrated leadership and management experience, including mentoring and/or supporting a high performing team
Strong understanding of evidence-based approaches to public health, behaviour change, and stakeholder engagement
Experience working with diverse communities, particularly First Nations and CALD including implementing co-design approaches
Experience and confidence in building and managing partnerships across sectors
Excellent communication and public speaking/presenting skills
The role is a new position, made possible through a 3-year funding agreement with Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health. It is being offered as a full-time role, until June 2029.
